Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona, South Rim

9/20: Leaving Kanab, we made the scenic 209-mile drive past Vermillion Cliffs National Monument and across the Navajo Bridge over the Colorado River.  Proceeding South and then West, we arrived at the East Entrance and began enjoying the magnificent views along the South Rim Drive, beginning with Desert View.

View after incredible view along the South Rim as we drove toward our home for the next 2 nights: Yavapai Lodge in the Grand Canyon Village.

The next day, 9/21, we took the shuttle out to Hermit's Rest and then hiked the Rim Trail back to Pima Point.

Hermit's Rest.

El Tovar Lodge, opened in 1905.

Hopi House, also from 1905, is a museum and store for American Indian art and crafts.  Like the Desert View Watchtower, Hermit's Rest, and several other important buildings in the park,  it was designed by the architect Mary Colter.
