Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park, Arizona

Leaving Moab on the morning of 9/15, we visited Monument Valley before spending the night on the Navajo Reservation in Kayenta.

Since I grew up watching Western movies, I have always wanted to see this place of such stark and unique beauty.

A famous view: West Mitten, East Mitten, and Merrick Butte.

The drive along the floor of the valley was a rough ride, but the slow driving and frequent stops provided many opportunities to enjoy the magnificent scenery.

I felt as though I was driving through a John Wayne movie!  The Duke made so many films here, starting with the 1939 classic "Stagecoach," that one of his monikers was "The Monarch of Monument Valley."
