Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado

Leaving Minneapolis on the morning of September 8th, we spent nights in Omaha, NE, and Sterling, CO, before arriving in the park on 9/10.  Our drive along the Trail Ridge Road on the 10th.

Up in the tundra region, equivalent to being in a latitude of northern Alaska.

A windy day at the Alpine Visitor Center; 11,796 feet.  They had already shut down the plumbing for the winter season when the road is shut down.

We spent two nights at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, a grand old retro wonder from 1909 that served as the setting for part of "The Shining."  It is known to be haunted and ghost tours are offered daily.  This doll house model of the place was used in the TV version of the famous Stephen King tale of madness.
The hotel was founded by F. O. Stanley, inventor of the Stanley Steamer automobile, and here is one on display right in the lobby.

The next day we hiked in the Bear Lake area of the park.

Many people call this beautiful region "God's country" but here is proof positive that He enjoys visiting it as much as anyone.

The Beaver Meadows Visitor Center, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright's firm.

Then we visited the YMCA of the Rockies, a favorite retreat for Bev's Dad in his youth and a place her family had visited during her own childhood.

Back at The Stanley.

That's the door to our room under the Exit sign.

On our last morning at The Stanley we awoke to the beauty of a frosting of snow on the front lawn as well as a herd of elk.

Leaving Estes Park on the morning of 9/12, we spent the night in Grand Junction, CO, arriving in Moab, Utah, on the 13th.
